A fond farewell in retirement to Jennifer Green

In late April this year, we said a fond farewell to Jennifer Green, a much loved and respected member of staff. The Outreach family, service users, current and former staff, and trustees, turned out in their droves to say goodbye to Jennifer at her leaving party at the Hub in Radcliffe. Our Chief Executive, Akilah Akinola, thanked her for the wonderful contribution she had made to Outreach.

Jennifer joined the Outreach staff in April 2002 in an admin role, becoming part of an office team with an HR manager and a receptionist. She had previously worked at a bank for many years. Whilst with Outreach, she went on to develop her skills further and became our Personnel Officer. During part of her 21 years with us, she also managed to teach cooking and needlework skills to adults at Bury College. How delighted and proud we all were when some of our service users attended her courses!

Jennifer always went the extra mile, whether that was to help an individual or the organisation. She was devoted to her work and was the perfect example of conscientiousness. This made her a very popular member of staff, who was universally liked by both colleagues and service users. She would always find time to make service users feel welcome at the Hub.

Her popularity was reflected by the generous amount of money raised for her retirement present. One of her great loves is gardening and she was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and gift vouchers for a garden centre. Added to those was a voucher for afternoon tea at our café – a good way to continue our friendship! When she uses that voucher, she’ll receive another gift – a photo album recording her time with Outreach and a collection of photos taken at her leaving party.

We hope that retirement will allow Jennifer to enjoy all her many and varied interests. She is a devout Catholic and very active in her Church and parish. She also loves walking, sewing and craftwork, so much so that she makes her own clothes and wall hangings.

We wish her a long, healthy and happy retirement. Perhaps Jennifer will find the taste for a cup of tea after never drinking one in the office for all her 21 years with us!
